Jigsaw printing is a process of relief printmaking in which woodblocks are cut up like puzzle pieces, individually inked in separate colors and then reassembled and printed. The results are perfectly registered, multi-color prints that require only one pass through the printing press! Image transfer processes, printing techniques, embossing, and basic woodshop skills will be covered.

What we provide:
One block
Ink
Proofing paper
Carving tools
Access to the woodshop during class
6 hours of Studio Time after the duration of the class*

We you will bring:
Extra paper to be discussed after first session.
Clothes appropriate for a print studio and wet ink (and an apron!)
Drawings and ideas!

* Just make sure to schedule your 6 hours with GSS before you just show up! We may not be open the day you want to use the shop.

The Gowanus Studio Space

In an era when art encompasses infinite amalgams of visual media, The Gowanus Studio Space encourages inter-disciplinary exchange and provides affordable access to facilities for artists and designers.  Offering exhibition, curation and production opportunities, the studio is an incubator for new ideas and an inroad to today's insular art world.

The GSS' 40+ members rent low-cost studios and storage and have 24-hour access to a woodshop, print studio and large common workspace.  GSS was established with little funding in industrial Gowanus in 2007, and is now in the final stage of an ambitious move to a new 7500 sq-ft home.
